When I had blonde hair I was very lazy when it came to maintenance. Really and truly you should tone your hair every six weeks however, I just used to re-tone every time I went to redo my hair which was every five-six months. Now that I have brown hair, I have to really keep up with maintenance as the colour can fade super quickly especially from heat. This is super annoying as I like to curl my hair every two days. After having done loads of research when I had blonde hair, lots of articles suggested that the best drugstore colour protecting shampoo and conditioner was the TRESemme Pro Collection Colour ShinePlex Sulphate free Shampoo and Conditioner in the colour protect range. Alongside the shampoo and conditioner I also use the TRESemme Keratin Smooth Heat Protect Hair Spray. Not only have these products been great for my blonde hair, but they have been fantastic for my brown hair. Like always I'll let you know the pros and cons.

Pros for TRESemme Pro Collection Colour Protect Shampoo and Conditioner:

  • The biggest pro for me is the scent in the shampoo and conditioner. I'm a massive fan of fragranced shampoos and love when people can smell my hair when I walk past them. It has a strong perfume smell that I love. The smell could be due to the Camelia oil.

  • My hair has not faded since I have dyed it which is AMAZING!

  • The shampoo and conditioner is sulphate free which is great as sulphate is a strong stripping ingredient which would contribute to the fading of hair colour.

  • I still prefer my Elvive conditioner however, this is the best drugstore colour protect conditioner I have ever used. It still moisturises my hair and keeps it looking smooth and shiny. Make sure you leave the conditioner on for at least two minutes in the shower for the conditioner to work on your ends.

  • You don't really need a lot of the conditioner to saturate your ends as the consistency is nice and thick. I've had a lot of experience with cheap and shitty drugstore conditioners that have a thin and watery consistency which leaves my hair brittle.

  • Both the shampoo and conditioner are affordable at only £2.49 from Boots. When paid full price they are £4.99 each which still isn't bad.

Cons for TRESemme Pro Collection Colour Protect Shampoo and Conditioner:

  • This isn't a con for me but some people may not like the idea of the shampoo being sulphate free. Sulphates in shampoos create the lather effect which then creates a placebo as it makes us believes that our hair is getting a good scrub. Because this shampoo is sulphate free, it does not create a lathering effect thus, people may think that their hair is not getting thoroughly cleansed when really it is.

  • You need to use a lot of shampoo to cleanse the whole scalp thoroughly. This may not be an issue for those who have short or fine hair.

  • I did find it slightly drying on my scalp but in general I do have a dry scalp so I guess it's not as moisturising as I would want it to be however, I rather have a dry scalp than a greasy scalp.

Pros for the TRESemme Keratin Smooth Heat Protect:

  • It detangles my horrible and tangled hair. I spray this allover my hair before blowdrying and curling. Sometimes, I even spray it even if I'm not blowdrying my hair because it makes such a great detangler. If you have thick and course hair you would love this spray.

  • It literally protects my hair colour from fading. Since I've been using it I'm shocked that my hair hasn't faded from the amount of heat I use on my hair.

  • It smells beautiful and compliments the shampoo and conditioner.

  • The spray leaves my hair looking healthy and adds shine to my curls.

Cons:

  • None. It does its job.

Remember, in order to gain the full benefits of the colour protect collection you must use all three products in conjunction with each other. Kritique Rating For The Whole Collection: 4/5.
