GHD (good hair day) is profoundly known for their hair straighteners as they are used in many hair salons across the UK however, no one really talks about their curling wands. I don't know if you have heard the infamous saying "we always want what we don't have" -this definitely applies to me. You will always catch me with curly hair as I constantly curl my naturally straight/ wavy hair and I feel as though straight hair does not suit me. Throughout my teen youth I always experimented with cheap wands such as Babyliss but I wanted more from a curling wand. Firstly I wanted a wand that would heat up fast. Secondly I wanted one that would help speed up the curling process. Thirdly, I wanted a wand that would curl hair without too much damage as I curl my hair constantly. And finally (phew) a wand that would produce long lasting curls. Was I asking for too much?

Why the creative curl wand and not any other GHD wand?

Honestly... I'm not sure. I think it's because I was sold on how GHD described this wand to produce natural looking curls which is what I wanted to achieve as I wear the curly look everyday.

So, what are the pros?

  • The wand heats up to 185 degrees however, other cheaper curling wands I have owned heat up to a maximum 200 degrees. I personally think that 185 degrees is enough as I know my hair is not getting too damaged by the heat.

  • Conveniently for you clumsy ladies and gents out there, the wand turns off automatically after thirty minutes so you don't have to spend your night out trying to remember if you turned it off.

  • The wand takes a couple of seconds to heat up. Yes that's right. So if you're in a rush and realise you have a straight strand hanging from the back of your head last minute, you can quickly turn the wand on and curl it.

  • You can produce both curls and waves due to the tapered design of the wand. In order to produce curls you must wrap the hair around the wand in small sections and with the hair laying flat. In order to achieve waves, twist the hair slightly as you wrap the hair around the wand and use bigger sections. Also, because the wand is tapered it is great for all hair lengths. If you have short hair you can easily wrap your hair around the end of the wand as this is the slimmest bit.

  • To achieve a nice curl you only need to leave the hair wrapped around the wand for around eight seconds which is quite rapid.

  • The end of the wand has a covered tip so you can't accidentally burn your face as I know many of us have done it before and had to turn to Sudocream to resolve it.

  • The curls do drop out but I think they look better on day two. If you want them to last longer, just spray a good hairspray such as L'Oreal Elnett on your hair. I only do this sometimes because I'm too lazy.

  • The wand also has a stand feature so you don't need to place the wand on a heat resistant mat.

Cons?

  • The only con I have about this wand is the fact that you can't change the temperature. This is not an issue for me as I think the temperature is perfect however, someone with more thin or fragile hair it may be quite damaging.

Can you get a similar wand but cheaper? Probably. But this wand fulfils what it offers. It does produce natural looking curls and it can be used with many different hair types and lengths.
