For those who have high pain threshold and can tolerate the pain of the infamous epilator, I bet you didn't know that you could purchase an epilator specifically for your face. Sounds too good to be true huh? Even before purchasing the Braun Face Epilator I glanced at a couple of reviews online and the stubbornness trait that I possess came through and regardless of the numerous bad reviews this product had, stupid me still brought it. What was the point of reading reviews? But regardless, I wanted to try the product out for myself and create my own judgement.

What are epilators?

Epilators are a form of hair removal technique. Epilators include many tweezers which pluck away at your hair in a rapid movement. The first time you use an epilator I must warn you it will hurt like a b*tch but, after that you'll get used to it. Before purchasing a wax kit, I used to epilate my legs and underarms. From time to time I also used to use it on my face and remove the sideburn hair however, my hair growth has reduced since and this is no longer necessary. If you're thinking "why can't you use the normal body epilator on your face?" Well, the facial hair is not long or thick enough to be grasped by the body epilator (from my experience). It is also not precise enough so, if you wanted to remove hair from a small area the epilator would be too wide. The body epilator I own is Braun and works sufficently. I say sufficiently as sometimes your hair can be cut by the epilator rather than grabbed from the root. That's why when I heard of the Braun face epilator I was sceptical about purchasing it.

How to use the facial epilator

Before epilation of any sort always make sure you exfoliate the skin. This removes dirt and oil so nothing gets clogged in your open pores and also reduces redness caused by epilation. Some people may experience 'strawberry legs' after some forms of hair removal. This is when red dots are left apparent on your legs. To avoid this from occuring exfoliate with a body scrub. I use Soap and Glory's 'The scrub of your life' for my body. For the face try opt for a mild facial scrub.

The epilator has a left and right direction therefore you pick the direction that goes the opposite direction of the hair growth. For example. if your hair grows downwards you want the epilator to rotate upwards.

When epilating slowly move the epilator against the direction of hair growth. You may have to go over the same area a few times. Once you have finished with the epilator, clean it with the brush provided.

Pros of the product:

  • The kit includes an attachable facial exfoliator brush so you can switch between this and the epilator head. The product is a two in one which makes your moneys worth and that's what we like to hear.

  • It is wireless and small so the epilator can be thrown in your bag for on the go epilation. This is great for when I am in the car and pull the mirror down and realise I have a long moustache strand.

  • There are two directions on the epilator so you don't have to position your hand in an awkward and uncomfortable place.

  • The head is small enough to epilate small areas for example the area on top of your brows.

  • It claims to be waterproof so you can use it in the shower however, how can it grab wet hair if it struggles to grab dry hair? Has anyone ever tried plucking hairs with a tweezer in the shower? Let me know if it's difficult, thanks.

Sounds good right? Sounds like the perfect facial epilator. Lol let me hit you with the cons...

  • Does not work. Yep. It said this on the reviews that I read prior to purchasing it. It does not catch the hair on my face. You would think it would considering I have South Asian, Indian hair but no. Even the long hairs on my forehead the epilator struggles to grab hold of.

  • One of the directions works faster than the other direction. The second time using the epilator it was super slow as if I have used it many times. I only sometimes use the facial brush head but works faster with one of the directions which is no problem but it's also slow just not as slow as the other direction.

Even though there are two cons, they're major and outweigh all the pros. The product just did not work and it did sound too good to be true. The epilator just rolls across your skin without grabbing the hair no matter how many times you go over the hair. Sometimes it even stops mid way through epilation because it doesn't hold the capacity to grab the hair. The only good thing that came out of this product was the facial brush but I would just buy a regular one. It just sits in my cupboard now. Sorry I couldn't make dreams come true guys.
