If you are a skin care junkie and are aware of the holy grail skin care Youtubers such as Hyram and the UK version- James Welsh, you would already know how much CeraVe is raved about. Developed by dermatologists, CeraVe is a very popular drugstore skin care brand.

I decided to purchase the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser for normal to dry skin for my Mum as she has both sensitive and dry skin. Also, after hearing so much about it I thought why not give it a go! I also wanted my Mum to be the guinea pig for this cleanser before I tried it out for myself as I'm sure she doesn't mind. After seeing the improvements in her skin, I lowkey decided to try it out behind her back. After having used it a couple of times, I was really impressed with the results so I decided to integrate it in to my skin care regime and use this cleanser in conjunction with The Body Shop Soap.

How to use

It is important that you use this cleanser (or any cleansers in fact) on wet skin. Apply one pump to your finger tips and lather it on to your face. Make sure you cleanse your whole face in circular motions to stimulate blood circulation and cleanse thoroughly. PLEASE wash the cleanser off. Unlike my partner and one of my brothers, they thought that you are not meant to wash the cleanser off as they said it didn't feel like it needed to be washed off???? Possibly because the cleanser does not foam? I don't know what goes on in their heads. So, please do not make this mistake as your face will be itchy and icky.

Pros

  • The cleanser is fragrance free and hypoallergenic which is great for those who have really sensitive skin. As you know we don't really like unnecessary fragrance around here.

  • I have not broken out since having used this cleanser. To be honest, my skin has much improved which I didn't think was possible.

  • I have dry skin and it has left my skin feeling perfectly hydrated. It hasn't made it too oily nor has it stripped the natural oils off from my face. You can tell that the formula, once you have applied it to your face, is very moisturising. It's like applying a satin milk to your face if that was such a thing lol.

  • It removes my basic makeup (see cons below).

  • It has three essential ceramides which is an ingredient CeraVe are mostly known for. Ceramide is an oil that is naturally found within the skin. Ceramides protect, retain and hydrate the skin's natural barrier which is important as it helps relive dry skin and eczema.

  • The cleanser is formulated with hyaluronic acid which is great for my dry skin readers as hyaluronic acid pulls moisture from the air and infuses it in to the skin.

  • The price of the hydrating cleanser is £15 which is a bit expensive for drugstore but, for a good quality cleanser I think this is the ideal price. You do get 473ml of product which would last you a very long time. The cleanser is also available to purchase in a smaller quantity if you didn't want to commit yourself to a big bottle.

Cons

  • It is not a deep cleanser but rather a moisturising one. For this reason I use this cleanser in the morning as it's gentle on my skin without disrupting the skin's natural barrier. I have used this cleanser with a full face of makeup and it failed to get rid of the mascara and pencil eyeliner I had on my waterline so, I had to go in with The Body Shop Soap. If you are going to use this hydrating cleanser to take off makeup, make sure you double cleanse.

  • My oily skin care readers should stay clear from this cleanser as it is too hydrating.

I do truly believe this is a good cleanser. It's perfect for those who want to adopt a good skin care regime and great for those who have sensitive skin. It is definitely a way better drugstore alternative to brands like Simple and Clean and Clear who are more targeted at teenage skin. It has all the ingredients you need in a good, basic cleanser but this product is definitely only suited for those with dry skin.
