I’ve always loved the look of encapsulated butterfly glitter and I always wanted to recreate the look using gel rather than acrylics. When I googled searched some ideas of gel nails with holographic glitter, I found nothing? Why hasn’t anyone done this yet? Is it because it is not possible? I decided to take on the challenge.

Due to unprecedented times, it’s super important that we support small businesses. When shopping for holographic butterfly glitter, I stumbled across a perfect pink butterfly glitter tub on Etsy. I purchased the glitter from GlitterBug UK. I’ll attach the link at the bottom.

How to use

So, on the desired nail where you want to place the glitter, I used one layer of base coat and cured. I then added another base coat and stuck the butterfly glitter on top. Tip: fold the butterflies in half vertically so they sit flat on the nail. If you don’t do this there’s a chance the corners of the wings can stick up. I then cure this and add a layer of top coat then cure. I then add another layer of top coat, cure, then wipe with the cleanser to finish off.

Pros

  • My order came the following day! I was super impressed with GlitterBug UK as I was excited to try the butterfly glitter nail trend.

  • I really appreciated the packaging that the products came in as you can see the effort GlitterBug UK put into my order which, made me enjoy my order more.

  • The glitter is absolutely gorgeous! I couldn’t have gotten a better pot of butterflies. I’m super in love with them!

  • I only paid £5 for a 5ml pot which would last me a very long time. You can also buy a 3g bag for £2.30 which would also last you a long time.

  • The glitter is not just for nails, you can also use this glitter on the face and body which may come in handy for halloween!

  • GlitterBug UK also do other ranges of beautiful glitters!

Cons

  • You have to apply a few layers of gel polish on top to ensure the butterflies don’t fall off. Make sure that the butterfly corners are not sticking up. If they are, just lightly file the corners down and then apply another clear layer of polish on top. This isn’t really a negative in regards to the product but, rather a consideration in terms of application.
