I have been meaning to do a blog on concealers for a very long time now since a beautiful reader had requested the idea. I don’t usually wear concealer everyday hence why this blog has taken a long time to create. I have four concealers, two high end concealers and two drugstore concealers. Today we will be testing a Fenty and a Tarte concealer which are both high end and also comparing these against each other and with a Rimmel London and a Maybelline concealer which are both drugstore. I will be looking at their performance from when I first applied them and how they looked 5 hours later.

High end concealers Tarte £24

The Bottle on this concealer is quite large as this one has the most product out of the four with 10ml of product. When I applied this concealer it was very easy to blend and merged smoothly with my foundation. What was good about this concealer was when I was using my finger to blend it out it didn’t leave any finger prints. The product didn’t move about, it stayed exactly where I wanted it. It was definitely full coverage and I could tell the difference between not having concealer and only having foundation on. This is the type of concealer you could wear without foundation just to cover insecurities. I liked how it wasn’t matte but rather dewy as it is quite hard to get a good pigmented and dewy concealer. It was also weightless and it didn’t feel cakey. I do really like this concealer!

The Tarte website claims the concealer creates 16 hours of flawless wear which I could not agree on. Although, you can just pat or swipe your under eye with your finger to fix this and the lines would sort of blend away. I’m only emphasising this issue because they claim that it is crease proof for 12 hours. To be fair, my eyes still looked bright and alive at the end of the day which is great for those who work long hours in the office and don’t want to return home looking like a zombie. I did notice even after re-blending the concealer out, it had stuck to dry patches in the inner corners of my eyes. On the other hand, I did notice whilst I was blending how soft my under eyes felt which could be due to the shea and mango butter in the ingredients. With a setting powder I know that this concealer would work to its full capacity but that’s not to say it isn’t great on its own.

Fenty £19

As a lover of Fenty Beauty, I had to try out their concealer! My initial thoughts on the concealer? Hmm, you can decide. I’ll hit you up with the pros first. The brand claims the concealer to be light weight, has a matte finish and is creamy. It is definitely light weight as the consistency of the concealer is thin. Additionally, it is definitely creamy but has a matte finish which oily skin readers may love. I did notice that it had a brightening finish to it BUT, the only thing I found with this concealer is that it was definitely not full coverage. Due to its light weight consistency, you could still see my dark under eyes seep through underneath but the brand defines the concealer as medium- full coverage. Maybe I was being stingy with it?

I apologise for the poor camera quality but I hope you can see what I mean about how you can still see my dark under eyes. The concealer definitely creased but was easily fixable by blending it in with your finger. I’m not sure if this would be a good and pigmented concealer however, it’s great for oily skin. Kritique Rating: 3.5/5.

Drugstore

Maybelline £5.99

This concealer surprisingly impressed me! Upon application I could see the full coverage straight away as the consistency was slightly thick and very pigmented. However, I did get scared as the colour was so orange and I prayed that it would blend out as the last thing I wanted was to look like Donald Trump. I used my middle finger to blend out the concealer and to my surprise it blended out seamlessly. The orange colour had blended right out and the concealer melted into my foundation. I was really impressed with the coverage and the finish as it was quite dewy which is what I love.

This concealer didn’t crease crazily like the others did. I actually really liked it from the pigmentation down to its dewy finish. For a drugstore concealer it has an impressive longevity. This one didn’t have the brightening property like the others but, it had a better coverage. If you’re looking for a pigmentated, dewy and cheap concealer, this is the one for you.

Kritique Rating: 4/5.

Rimmel London £6.99

The concealer claims to be brightening and full coverage which is perfect for the under eye in order to make the face appear awake. The consistency of the concealer was quite thin in comparison to the Maybelline one which I think did make a big difference. In the selfie I have taken, you may notice that the darkness of my eyes seeps through the concealer. Rather than brightening, I think the concealer portrays a chalky look rather than a brightening look. I see the idea behind the the brightening claim but for my skin tone it just doesn’t work. I used my finger to blend the concealer but because the consistency was so thin, it kept leaving finger prints under my eyes as the product kept moving about. I wouldn’t say it is full coverage and I wouldn’t use this to hide my big under-eye bags.

It’s ironic how the concealer is called `long lasting’ as you can’t probably tell but, the Rimmel London concealer did not last long. It’s like it had magically disappeared off my face. Honestly, don’t even bother with this concealer. Absolutely awful. Kritique Rating: 1/5.

Out of all of them I must rank the Tarte one as the best one out of the four. Even though it did crease, the concealer would be perfect if it was set with just a little bit of powder. Moreover, the best drugstore concealer was definitely the Maybelline one. The worst one out of all of them was the Rimmel London one which had quite a cheap finish.
