If you’re a Tiktok skincare addict you may have seen The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution being raved about on the social media app however, many people have been inappropriately using the product which is leading to severe damage of the skin. If you haven’t heard of it then I’m about to enlighten you about the brand and the product. The Ordinary is great because it’s an affordable skincare brand who sell serums, moisturisers etc in specific chemical concentrations. For example, if you wanted a serum to tackle a specific concern like dry skin, the Hyaluronic acid serum would be perfect to add to your skincare regime. The Ordinary Peeling Solution is a chemical exfoliator that you leave on the face for 10 minutes in order for it to deeply cleanse your pores without having to pull out that stupid blackhead tool (check my blackhead tool blog if you already haven’t) to get rid of congestion. It helps with blackheads, acne, scars, wrinkles, fine lines and improves radiance. Because I love my readers, I wanted to tell you guys how to use the product correctly as it is so powerful and provide you guys with my first impressions of it.

I just wanted to start off by saying that this product is cruelty free and vegan which is great as this is important for our planet. Another point I wanted to stress was the number of times this product should be used. DO NOT use this product more than once a week. I’m not shouting at you, I’m just trying to save your skin. Using it more than once a week will damage your skin in the long run and cause sensitivity. Chemical exfoliants are so strong if they are misused they can lead to irritation, pigmentation and burns therefore, you must do a patch test before use as it may not agree with certain skin types.

How to use

1. You MUST cleanse and dry your skin. This product should only be used on dry skin. Use a cleanser but NOT an exfoliating one (not one with beads or granular particles.) I used The BodyShop Moringa soap.

2. Use the dropper and apply the product to your fingertips. You can wear gloves if you feel like you will accidentally over exfoliate your fingers or apply it to a cotton pad. Do not just let it drip down your face as you may see in the Tiktok videos. I am only going to be focusing this product on my nose area as this is my problem area. I will be applying the product to my fingertips then massaging it into my nose. When you are using this product please avoid the eye area and the lips.

3. After 10 minutes, rinse the peeling solution off with cold water. You must pat dry your face with a towel, do not rub as this can irritate the skin.

4. Make sure the moisturiser you’re applying does not contain salicylic acid, benzyl peroxide or retinol (acne moisturisers). You must apply sunscreen after you use this product as you have gotten rid of the dead skin cells and revealed new and fresh baby cells which would be super sensitive to light and the sun. You should be wearing sunscreen regardless.

I’m not a dermatologist or a professional but I have done lots of basic research on how to use this product and I wanted to share my information with my readers to save you from getting damaged skin. It is a great product when used properly so don’t be put off or scared to use it. As long as you follow my guide your skin will look fresh and great.

Overall, the product didn’t feel uncomfortable at all on my face. It does have a weird smell but nothing overpowering. After having used it on my nose, it felt super soft and normally my nose feels quite rough and bumpy. Even when I applied my moisturiser, spf and foundation they all glided on smoothly. I could still see some blackheads and sebaceous filament but I won’t be quick to judge this product and I will update you guys in three months to see its true effects.
