Why The Oral-B Genius 9000 Is Better Than Your Average Toothbrush

During this unusual time it has been so important to keep our teeth clean considering you have probably been binge eating junk food whilst watching Netflix and with Dentists only taking emergency appointments, this doesn't help either. I must admit, I am no saint either. I eat a lot of junk and a lot of sweets but I do like to make sure my teeth are kept looking clean and white. Before purchasing the Oral-B Genius 9000, I had used the Oral-B Pro 600 which was their second cheapest standard electric brush. The only features it had was a two minute timer and it rotates to clean plaque. I much preferred the Pro 600 over a manual toothbrush as the timer was definitely useful as I had to count two minutes in my head when using a manual brush and would lose track. You can definitely feel the difference of your teeth when you brush with the Pro 600 compared to a manual as your teeth feel more cleaner. The only problem I had with the Pro 600 brush was the fact that the battery ran out quicker than I expected. Okay I admit, I never used to charge it to its full capacity but I feel like it was charging for hours just for it to last 5 days? Yet, the Oral-B website states that this brush has a battery life of 11-14 days. It used to slow down after two days of brushing which really started to get annoying. That's when I decided to upgrade.

My mum also wanted an Oral-B toothbrush so I grabbed a bargain from Boots- two Genius 9000 brushes for £120... bargain! The original price for one is £300. I must admit the prices can fluctuate from time to time so do watch out!

Pros:

  • The colours of the brushes are stunning. The aesthetic of the product is slimline and beautiful. Me and my mum had the difficult decision of choosing between the rose gold and the black.

  • The brush handle is compatible with all Oral-B brush heads:

  1. FlossaAction

  2. CrossAction- For an overall clean and cleans deep between teeth. I always choose this brush head as I feel as though this head is their most generic one and cleans the whole tooth.

  3. Precision Clean

  4. Sensi Ultrathin

  5. 3D White

  6. TriZone

  • You can change the colour light on your brush using the Oral-B app. It sounds so sad but choosing the colour light was so exciting lol.

  • The set comes with four brush heads- two deep clean, one whitening and one sensitive.

  • You can connect your toothbrush to your phone which records your brushing pattern in order to help improve it. The app helps you set and achieve goals for example, the app provides instructions on how to achieve whitening if this were to be your goal.

  • The brush will flash red to warn you when you are brushing too hard.

  • There are six brushing modes you can use which are compatible with any brush head. I usually use deep clean mode and on some teeth that are prone to turning yellow I switch to the whitening mode. I then finish off with the tongue cleaning mode which is gentle enough but really does clean the tongue way better than the Pro 600 and a manual toothbrush.

  • The brush features a timer however, you can choose the length of time you want to brush using the app. The brush will give you a thirty second warning by pulsating and the light will flash to warn you to move onto the next quadrant of your teeth. There will be a final lengthier warning to state it has been two minutes.

  • With a full charge this brush lasts two weeks which is perfect to take on holiday as you don't have to carry unnecessary charging luggage.

  • There is a battery icon on the brush which shows how much battery you have and will flash red when it is low.

  • The toothbrush comes with a travel case which also can hold two brush heads including the one currently on your brush.

  • The brush set comes with a phone holder which you can attach to your wall. This is so the app can monitor how you brush your teeth and see areas you may miss. You can also use it to take selfies when no one is there to hold the camera or for FaceTime.

Cons:

  • I don’t really use the app because I think it’s too much hassle in the morning trying to set it up, turn the camera on the app, attach it to the phone holder, connect the toothbrush via bluetooth and let my phone watch me brush my teeth. Especially at night when you’re half asleep and just want to quickly get ready for bed. It would be cool if instead the brush monitored how you brush your teeth and then sent that data back to the app. Okay maybe I’m asking for some advanced technology but correct me if I’m wrong, did we not send someone to land on the moon?

  • The brush can be quite loud so if there is a scary ghost or killer ready to attack you from behind chances are you may not hear them.

  • In the set of two you only receive one charger which, luckily for me I still had mine from the Pro 600.

  • The Brushes are expensive when paid at full price.

A little side note- when you do use this brush, make sure you put it in your mouth before you turn it on as the toothpaste can fly everywhere and may even accidentally land in your eye.

Overall, this toothbrush is great in comparison to a manual brush as manual brushes will not provide you with the thorough clean like how the 9000 Genius brush will. There are cheaper alternate Oral-B brushes however, I would either purchase the 9000 or the 8000 (the only difference is the 9000 has one more brushing mode than the 8000) as these are worth the investment. As for the cheaper Oral-B brushes like the Pro 600, I believe these are just as good as a manual toothbrush in regards to performance wise. I believe not many people would use the app features as some are time consuming and over complicated but it’s nice to have them there. Kritique Rating: 4.8/5
